Weekend Reading - Motel One, Gusto, Warkworth Beach & Nethermined

Another nosey into what I've been up to this week. First of all, it was World Book Day which I usually dread (I am not a 'costume making' sort of mam) however this year our school decided to do things a little differently and asked the kids to dress up in their PJ's and bring in their favourite book.

Motel One Opening and Live Music Night at Gusto

My bro came to my rescue this Thursday and watched the kids until Steve finished work so I could attend not one but two events on Thursday night. First up was the Motel One launch - such a fab evening with even the town cryer and Lord Mayor in attendance. You can read our review of Motel One Newcastle here

Next up was a Live Music Night at Gusto. I went along with my blogging pal Chloe and we had such a lovely night catching up on gossip, eating our favourite Gusto dishes (Cauliflower soup for me, Gusto burger for Chloe) and listening to the smooth vocals of Glen Roughead. This is the second live music night I've attended at Gusto and if you haven't given them a try, I could not recommend them enough. The service is always spot on, food gorgeous and atmosphere fantastic.

On Saturday we were invited along to Nethermined - an unofficial Minecraft event in Newcastle. We REALLY wanted to visit last year but couldn't as it was my sister in laws wedding. We are HUGE Minecraft fans in this house - well I say we, I mean the kids are! Tickets were £15 each and yes we didn't pay for our tickets so people may feel like I can't comment about this - but I'm going to anyway! My three loved being part of a Minecraft event and were honestly over the moon to have their pic taken with original skin Steve.

Inside we listened to and met youtubers and were able to ask questions. Even Jack sat and listened and was joining in with the conversation. It was exciting to see as he is normally a nightmare when we go to stuff like this! I wasn't sure I was going to like the event but I honestly didn't find it overly crowded and we'd already agreed we weren't going to buy any merchandise so we didn't spend that much either. We were able to hear the sessions we went to and I appreciated the advice given to parents about Minecraft. As a blogger and aspiring vlogger myself, it was actually really inspiring to listen to what pro-youtubers had to say too. Some of them have 50k+ subscribers!! I especially loved listening to False Symmetry and SirCutieYuki. Here's our short video from the event:-

I've been out and about quite a bit this week with trips to Warkworth beach, afternoon tea at Tyneside Bar Cafe and a mammoth catch up session with the other Northumberland Mumpreneur directors - you've got to love unlimited coffee at Wetherspoons before 2pm for 85p!

Blog life

I have teamed up with other top UK Family Travel bloggers to bring you 33+ destinations to visit and stay across England as part of English Tourism Week. This was such a fab collaboration and I have loved reading everyone's posts.

I received a super exciting email inviting us all to London over Easter - CANNOT WAIT to start planning our trip. If anyone has any restaurant recommendations near the Houses of Parliament or The London Eye, please let me know.

It has been a BIG week in our house as my husband Steve has finally bitten the bullet and started his own blog. YEAH! There needs to be much more 'dad' bloggers in my opinion. Steve's blog will sometimes offer a different take on places we've been so will give an alternative view but is also going to concentrate on film and tv reviews. Click here to read his first post.

Finally, I have started a new Facebook group entitled 'North East Food Lovers'. If you live in the North East and enjoy eating out or just food in general, I'd love you to join. It's a community group where we encourage people to ask for recommendations or post about places they've eaten.

Three things that have made me happy this week

1 - Lots of catch up sessions with my friends including Karen over afternoon tea, Chloe over wine and my mumpreneur friends over coffee.

2 - Lazy weekend mornings and fun days out with the family

3 - Jack's Mother's Day Card made me smile. Apparently he loves me because 'I make him a fresh drink' bless!!

Five blog posts I've enjoyed this week

  • I LOVE The Grainger Market and visit every week so it was lovely to read this post and see the market through the eyes of a newbie.
  • This Harry Potter Gift Box from Sugar Rushed is INSPIRED and I wish I had even a teeny bit of the creativity that Ashlie does!

I hope everyone has a lovely Mother's Day - I am hoping for a lie in, bacon sandwich and then spending the afternoon in the pub eating Sunday lunch and drinking plenty of wine!
