Weekend Reading - Motel One, Turtle Bay and an unexpected day off school

I've had such a busy week this week that at times I haven't known if I was coming or going. This wasn't helped with the fact that the kids' school was unexpectedly closed due to power problems at the start of the week!

Real Life

I feel slightly mean saying this but I was pleased when half term was over and I could get back into a routine.

Steve is working longer hours and more days so we have less time together now. Booo! My mum babysits for us once every month and this week we decided to make the most of it and book into newly opened Motel One in Newcastle. WOW we were hugely impressed with the decor, staff and service and will be recommending this hotel to everyone who asks from now on. The location has to be the best in town for nightlife and shopping.

I couldn't wait to take Steve to Turtle Bay and booked a table for us well in advance. It was just as good as last time and I would HIGHLY recommend the Jerk Chicken Wings and plenty of rum punch.

We were supposed to visit Gusto for Gin tasting afterwards but didn't finish until after 8pm (and the tasting started at 7pm) and I had made the awful mistake of buying new shoes that I couldn't walk in!! We ended up visiting The Stand Comedy Club next door to our hotel. We managed to get tickets for just £5 each which included free food (which we had to decline!) and we had such a good night - I would definitely recommend.

You may remember that last September I vowed to spend more time on me. I was able to indulge this week and enjoyed the most luxurious treatment at Sammy Anne's in Whitley Bay. It was wonderful and a real treat! I also started my make up overhaul with a trip to Kiko as recommended by a fair few beauty bloggers.

I bought a highlighter stick, three eyeshadows, two lipsticks, a mascara and an eyeshadow blending brush for £58 which I didn't feel was too bad. I also had to pop to boots for my foundation - I just love the No7 colour match service and it never lets me down. I picked up some Barry M primer and an eyeliner stick too. I can't wait to try my new treats out!

Blog life

I had lots of work to catch up on after half term so it was just my luck that the kids were off school! I took them to our local soft play which is something I NEVER do so a real treat for them and I managed to get quite a bit of work done too.

The 2016 Mark Warner Ambassador's were selected on Friday and sadly, I wasn't selected. I am fine with this though as I've come to learn that not every blogging opportunity is right for me - I would never book a £7k holiday for our family so it does make sense that we aren't going to represent Mark Warner -  we clearly aren't their target market. I always believe that everything happens for a reason and we had lots of fun creating our entry.

I am doing something a little different on Monday and I'm spending the day at a nursery for blog purposes! I really don't know what to expect but you will be able to read all about my experience on North East Family Fun soon.

5 posts I've enjoyed this week

3 things that have made me happy this week

  • Spending 24 hours off from the world in Newcastle
  • An unexpected day off with the kids - we actually had a good day with minimal arguments
  • I straightened my hair this week which is a rare occurrence but always makes me feel happier

I hope you have a good week and thanks for reading :D

  1. Turtle Bay is one of my favourite places to eat in Newcastle at the moment, and I adore their mocktails. Have a while to wait for the hard stuff, disappointingly!

  2. Gutted you weren't chosen, but things definitely happen (or don't happen) for a reason.

Wow Motel One really does look lovely, I recently read a review of the one in Manchester and it looked really nice so I had a feeling ours would be great too. Brilliant to have a nice, affordable hotel in Newcastle. They're hard to find!
