Weekend Reading - issue one

I loved writing Weekend Reading over on North East Family Fun last year but sadly had to stop the series as work and life got in the way! Booo!

I hope to resurrect the series now though and publish a post every Sunday morning here on Life as Mrs R. Expect a bit of real life, blog life, posts I've enjoyed plus a few miscellaneous items!

Happy Sunday (and Valentine's day) everyone!

Real Life

Jack was poorly at the end of last week/weekend and beginning of this week. Anyone who has a poorly child will know how hard it is. You just want to make them better. We spent 4 loooooong days watching tv together and I didn't get much done.

We managed to start on phase one of our year long house renovation plan this week. We cleared all of the junk and our old sofa from the conservatory and moved our tumble dryer from there into the kitchen, We then fully opened out our dining table and moved it so it wasn't against the wall. I LOVE it. It's an actual useable room now. Later this month we are buying new wardrobes to line the other wall (there is currently Heidi's single pink wardrobe there that is really too small to hold all of our coats and is falling apart!) and then I will add a few soft furnishings before we start saving for a new dining table and chairs.

I also finally got my way and have been allowed my own desk in the living room. I always work in this room despite having a desk in the kitchen and a table in the conservatory but I usually sit on the sofa. I like to have the TV on in the background as I work or sometimes I need to work and keep an eye on the kids playing so this is ideal.

Yeah! I have my own desk! Just need a new chair now

Blog Life

I've had a few exciting meetings this week in town - I love meeting clients in Newcastle as it gives me the chance to try out new coffee shops. This week it was Mason & Rye and the Tyneside Bar Cafe. I would recommend both as a place to meet or catch up. I also sneaked in a quick lunch at Fuego with Katie from Feeding Boys. It was fab to chat all things blogging and sample some delicious food with fab service. Blog review coming up next week.

Gnocchi with tomato and pesto from Fuego

I was also selected as an ambassador for the Geronimo Festival this week and I'm very excited for the kids to have their first taste of festival life and I was super chuffed when I blogged about Beyonce tickets and my post was on the first page of google for various search terms within a few hours of being published. Yeah!

I maintained my Tots 100 and Trips 100 rankings of #35 and #11 respectively. Ahhh if you'd told me a year ago I'd be ranked as one of the top bloggers in the country there is no way I would have believed you!

I've also entered the search for Mark Warner's family blogging ambassador. This is a HUGE deal in the blogging world and there really is some stiff competition. Here is my entry for Life As Mrs R, my post for North East Family Fun is taking a little bit more time but should be here by the end of the week!

My favourite posts of the week have been this one featuring my first experience of reflexology and 15 date ideas in Newcastle for under £20.

5 Posts I've enjoyed this week

  • We are Adventure Junkies by Five Adventurers - Love, love, love this Mark Warner Ambassador entry and the video is just fab
  • Are You Kind? by Adventures of a Monkey Footed Mummy - a really heartfelt and honest post from Karen

3 things that have made me happy this week

  • We were all home to enjoy pancake day together and the kids had a fantastic time choosing their own toppings (I'm still not convinced that lemon juice goes with chocolate sauce).
  • I have my own desk/workspace and I LOVE it
  • I met up with friends and our little ones for a much needed catch up after school which was lovely.

Instagram life

You can follow me on instagram here or just search for NorthEastFamilyFun. I am finally getting to grips with instagram and have tried streamlining my content to only feature outdoor photos from around the North East. I love the overall look now! Photos this week have featured Belsay Hall, Warkworth Castle, Seaton Delaval Hall, The Blyth Boathouse, Seahouse, Hadrian's Wall, Auckland Castle, Gibside, Goldsmiths and Lindisfarne Priory.

I hope you enjoyed my first little catch up of the year, I'll be back next Sunday with more ramblings x
