So I failed Dry January

Yep, I said it! I failed! I lasted 14 days to be precise. Now I'm the most stubborn of girls and I truly believe I could have lasted until the end HOWEVER my heart just told me what's the point. It was Friday night, we were watching a movie and it just didn't feel right without a glass of wine. So I caved and had a glass. It was fabulous! When you work hard through the week and are stressed spending time running around after three kids, allowing myself one or two glasses of wine on one night a week is a compromise I am happy to make!

So my new plan is that we will choose one night every week to enjoy a drink. If we are staying in we are only allowed to open one bottle of wine and if we are going out we can let our hair down a little. This will cut our alcohol intake down by around 50% I reckon.

On the Pepsi front, I have managed to stick to diet soft drinks for the whole of January so far - I'm really not keen on diet coke or diet pepsi so have been sticking with diet lemonade, water or coffee. This has been a lot easier to stick to and something I am pretty sure I can continue forever now.

We're off to The Botanist's first birthday party tomorrow and I am going to be good and limit myself to only a couple of drinks. What dry January has taught me is that my life is sooooo much better when I am hangover free and they aren't worth it.

Did you manage to stick with Dry January this year?

  1. You gave it a bloomin good go! Well done you! We don't really drink in the house but we are addicted to Diet Coke so only allow ourselves to have it at weekends .. having a little of your favourite thing makes it a treat to look forward to!

  2. I don't see lasting until Day 14 as a failure - you gave it a go and you managed to stick at it for a few weeks that you wouldn't have done otherwise, so that's an achievement in itself!
I think your new plan of sticking to one night a week of enjoying a drink is a much more sustainable one.
I lasted until Day 12 when I did it last year, so yours is impressive. I'm trying to cut down too, as got into the habit of wine at home and need to kick it! As you say, MUCH more nicer to wake up feeling refreshed in a morning- I actually get up before the alarm when not had any wine which is unheard of as I usually snooze it forever, lol! :-)

  4. You gave it a mighty fine go!

I so agree that waking up without feeling yak is much better but you are still having your time when you have a tipple.

  5. 14 days is good!!! Don't beat yourself up... it's more about a realistic and balanced approach rather than all or nothing. My other half has stopped for the whole of the month, but I've basically given up during the week and had a few tipples at the weekend. I still feel like i've cleaned up my act, but don't feel utterly miserable at the lack of alcohol either!
